NAPO Conference 2006: The Buzz from Beantown

Three NAPO-NC organizers with Barry Izsak, President of NAPO.
Ten NAPO-NC members made their way north in March of this year to participate in the 18th Annual NAPO Conference and Organizing Exposition held in downtown Boston, Massachusetts. Once again the conference reached record breaking attendance levels by hosting nearly 900 participants. NAPO-NC broke its own attendance record by doubling the number of attendees from last year.
NAPO-NC attendees enjoyed a myriad of educational and networking opportunities to include learning about the latest organizing trends and resources, sharing best practices with peers, and honing business and marketing skills.

On hand at the conference were top-notch speakers including Sandra Yancey, founder and CEO of eWomenNetwork.com, the fastest growing most visited membership based women’s business network on the Internet, Laurie Weiss PhD, who demonstrated how to recognize and consciously evaluate potentially challenging ethical situations that may be encountered by professional organizers, and Stuart Ellis-Meyers, the only professional speaker to suffer from Tourette Syndrome who inspired attendees to move beyond fear and negative beliefs in their personal and professional lives.

One of this year’s brightest highlights was the presentation of the 2006 President’s Award to NAPO-NC’s very own Barbara Hemphill. Besides being a former NAPO President from 1992-1995 and receiving both the Founder’s Award and Service to NAPO Award in 1997, Barbara’s organizing career to date has spanned 27 years making her a pillar of the industry. NAPO President Barry Izsak said of Barbara, “She is driven by her desire to make the world a better place by helping others maximize their potential. She knows no limit in the giving of herself and her time for something she believes in.” We are truly proud of Barbara and her accomplishments and honored to have her as a member of NAPO-NC!

Janice Russell was recognized for her role of NAPO Education Committee Chair as well as for her role of 2005-2006 NAPO-NC President.
In conjunction with the NAPO conference was the 5th annual NSGCD conference entitled “Matters of the Mind.” NSGCD certainly held true to its mission: “to explore, develop and disseminate to professional organizers and related professionals, organizing methods, techniques, approaches and solutions that will benefit chronically disorganized people,” by offering content-rich learning opportunities to all attendees. NAPO-NC attendees came away applauding the value of the NSGCD conference experience.
