The Reception Area

Before: The cluttered reception area used to be the first thing one viewed when entering. The open desk shelves contributed to visual clutter and the abundance of flyers felt more like information overload than informative.

After: A pair of wood desks, repurposed from another room, give this area a more streamlined look. New phone message receptacles help the volunteers keep on top of messages. The glow of a table lamp makes the area feel warmer.

The Resource Library

After: The library is more inviting and feels more spacious. Books and magazines are tidier and feel more accessible.

Before: The sitting area bumped into the workspace of Denise Weber, Resource Coordinator. At her desk, Denise faced the corner, away from the door.

After: The sitting area is physically separated from Denise's new area by a bookshelf, used as a room divider, creating a more intimate sitting area with a larger coffee table, donated by Classic Treasures in Durham.

Before: Too much furniture made the room seem cramped.

After:The TV, not often used, was wheeled away into a closet and the large sofa was replaced by a love seat. Denise's new area gives her a view out the window. A stained glass window was hung to help give the room better balance.

The Kitchen

Before: The copy machine took up valuable kitchen space, a too-deep bookshelf blocked full opening of the Yoga room door, and too much visual clutter made the room seem busy and cramped.

After: The copy machine was moved to the supply room, the bookshelf was replaced and visual clutter was reduced by replacing the open-shelved microwave cart with a closed-door cabinet. A glass dining table was donated by Classic Treasures to visually open up the space as well as provide more seating for nutritional seminars held in the kitchen.

The Storage Closet

After: One can now set foot in the closet and find items at a moment's notice.
