Every year the North Carolina chapter of NAPO (National Association of Professional Organizers) participates in “Get Organized Month,” or “GO Month,” by sponsoring activities to increase awareness of the organizing profession. For GO Month 2006, the group hosted four weekends of free organizing seminars for the general public. The series was co-sponsored by Barnes and Noble Booksellers at The Streets at Southpoint mall in Durham, North Carolina. The events attracted 135 seminar participants, and chapter members passed out hundreds of NAPO-NC business cards to attendees and store visitors.
GO Month is a national event sponsored by the National Association of Professional Organizers. Founded in 1985, NAPO is the largest national association of and for professional organizers, with over 3350 members throughout the world. GO Month is celebrated every January to honor many people’s annual resolution to be more organized. Each NAPO chapter chooses how it will promote GO Month in its local area.
NAPO-NC's organizational seminars were held each Saturday during the month of January. The seminars were free, and no registration was required. Each session included presentations by three different organizers, each of whom spoke on an area of specialty. Other organizers were on hand to greet attendees, answer questions, and show the variety of organizing books that the store provided.

GO Month represents the chapter’s group effort to educate the public about the benefits a professional organizer can provide. As a result of the seminars, NAPO-NC has been cordially invited back to host future seminars at the store. The chapter thanks Barnes & Noble for its support of GO Month 2006 and the North Carolina chapter of NAPO.
NAPO-NC's Community Relations Director, Stacie Schultz, commented "The goals and successes of GO Month are three-fold. First, the GO Month format provides one of our primary opportunities to showcase our profession, our chapter, and our entire industry. Next, when we come together as a united front for this event, we cannot help but reap the benefits of combining our strengths; the community gleans top-notch information, and our chapter is energized by working and succeeding together. Finally, because GO Month is NAPO-wide, participating in something far bigger than ourselves heightens our credibility as Professional Organizers and raises the standards of the industry."
This event was sponsored by the North Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO-NC) in partnership with Barnes and Noble at The Streets at Southpoint mall, 6910 Fayetteville Road, Durham, NC.
