Follow the “One in, One out” rule. This works especially well for clothing. Bought a new pair of pants? Then it’s time to get rid of an old one... take that pair sitting in the back of the closet (you know, the one you haven’t worn in two years) and take it to the thrift shop. Keep a running “thrift shop bag” near your closet (a shopping bag is a good size) - when it’s full, drop it off.
